How to Upload WordPress to a GoDaddy Hosting Account

Posted on 16. Feb, 2009 by Shawn Ramsey in WordPress

Installing WordPress on a GoDaddy account was at one point in time a very difficult task to accomplish. It can now be done in as little as 5 minutes. Follow these instructions to easily add WordPress to your GoDaddy hosting account.

I recommend that you switch to the Linux server if you are not already using it before installing.

Step 1

If you don’t already have a hosting account set-up with GoDaddy, then go ahead and do that before continuing.

Step 2

Click the Hosting link on the left side of the screen.

Step 3

Choose Manage Account.

Step 4

Click Content and then GoDaddy Hosting Connection underneath.

Step 5

Now choose Blogs and then WordPress.

Step 6

Click Install Now.

Step 7

Now choose which domain you want to install WordPress on.

Step 8

Set-up the database by choosing a name and password.

Step 9

Choose the install directory ex. http://www.yourwebsite.com/wordpress. I recommend deleting the word wordpress in this step so that it is downloaded directly to the root folder. This will make signing into WordPress much easier in the future. Click Next.

Step 10

Now choose your WordPress Admin name and Password. This will be the same name and password you use to login to your WordPress account. Key in your e-mail and Blog Title. I recommend making your blog title the same as your domain name minus the “http://” for example www.yourwebsite.com. Now click finish.

Step 11

Within 10 minutes or so you will get an e-mail on the e-mail account you entered in step 10 letting you know that WordPress has been installed and the Database created.

You’re done!

After the confirmation e-mail type in http://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin in the address bar of your browser and you can login to WordPress and start creating your website. Uploading new themes would be the next logical step unless you want to stick with the default themes that come with WordPress.

Just wanted to let you know these instructions were very concise and
extremely helpful to me. I loved the way you circled and highlighted
what to do. For a newbie,it was like having an instructor standing over me, which is what I needed. I just hit your donate buttom. Thanks
and I hope you continue the wordpress instructions.
