10 New jQuery Plugins Released In 2010

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been rounding up some of the best WordPress plugins, focusing on some specific categories, and posting them here on a weekly basis. Seeing how we’re just a few weeks into the new year, I thought in this article we would shift gears a little and showcase a few brand new plugins all of which combine the powerful use of jQuery.

As jQuery continues to grow in popularity, I expect some very powerful plugins to be introduced throughout the year. To give you a glimpse of what has already been unleashed, here is a list of 10 New jQuery Plugins Released In 2010.

01. jQuery Table of Contents

jQuery Table of Contents uses Javascript to insert a SEO friendly table of contents into single posts or pages. It uses jQuery to inspect the content of your post or page and generate table of contents links based on the header tags. It’s also highly customizable.

02. jQuery Colorbox

We’ve all seen lightbox plugins before. Here is another one that adds a bit of style.

03. jQuery Drop Down Menu

The jQuery Drop Down Menu plugin can manage multi-level dropdown menus, plus you can customize the menu with full animation support and many more from admin area.

04. Content Warning

Using Ajax and Thickbox, content warning displays a message to users with an option to leave the site upon entering. This plugin is useful for users using WordPress to host mature content or if you would prefer users to go through a landing page.

05. FadeOut-Thumbshots

This plugin displays thumbnails for hyperlinks that exist on a WordPress page. It’s configurable whether you’d like to preview all, only external or specially marked hyperlinks.

06. Last.wp

What Last.wp does is show a few of the songs you just listened to over at Last.fm. It displays album artwork, the song name, the artist name, and the album name.

07. qTwit

A Twitter widget that displays your tweets in the sidebar. Features a fast download time, automatic linking of URL’s, will not slow down or pause your page while Tweets are loading and much more.

08. knspr-imgnote

This plugin allows you to place notes on images similar to what is seen on Flickr. Please take note that this is not a final release, so there might be bugs. The screenshot is from the admin options point of view.

09. Simple Counters

This plugin adds a simple counter badge (FeedBurner and Twitter) to your blog. The badge displays a counter of your FeedBurner readers and Twitter followers, it also provides “Subscribe to” and “Follow me” links for your users.

10. Preview Comments Short URL

Allows you to expand and preview short URL’s in comments, useful to detect spam not caught by your antispam plugin or links to malicious sites before comment approval.

    The table of contents plugin looks interesting. Thanks for labeling the images, it made it easier to understand what each plugin did.
