How to Upload Themes to WordPress

Posted on 17. Feb, 2009 by Shawn Ramsey in Wordpress

If you’ve used WordPress before, then you know that the ability to change themes on the fly is a wonderful option whether you are unhappy with your current theme, or just need a change. So how do you upload new themes? Some themes can be uploaded through WordPress after logging in, but sometimes you need to upload your downloaded theme directly to your hosting account. Here’s how.

Uploading WordPress Themes via an FTP program:

1. Get into your FTP program.

2. Locate and open the wp-content folder.

3. Locate the themes folder inside the wp-content folder. You should now be here (/wp-content/themes).

4. Move your new theme from your computer into the themes folder on your hosting account. Allow the transfer to take place.

Now the next time you login to WordPress your new theme will be available.

Share it if you like it:
