How To Update The iPhone To The New 3.0 Software
Posted on 18. Jun, 2009 by Shawn Ramsey in Featured, Tutorials
On June 17th, iPhone 3G and original iPhone users were given the opportunity by Apple to download and install the new 3.0 software. This has been a much anticipated update for most users allowing us a few options and bug fixes that we have been wanting for sometime. I have personally updated to the new software without any problems, and recommend it to anyone who owns an iPhone. To update your phone, simply follow the directions below.
STEP 1:
Open up iTunes and plug in your iPhone. Once your phone is recognized, click on the icon that represents it in the left hand side of the screen.
STEP 2:
You should now see the summary pane window which looks like this… Click the Check for Update button.
STEP 3:
After clicking the Check for Update button, a window will open informing you that the new 3.0 software version is available and asking you if you would like to install it. Click Download and Install. Do not unplug your phone until the software has been installed.
You will then be informed about what the new software includes and asked to accept the terms. Click Next to begin the download and installation.
iTunes will now download the software before installing it to the phone. You can check the progress of the download by clicking Downloads in the lefthand side of iTunes. Remember, do not unplug your phone.
Once the 3.0 sofware has been installed on your iPhone, your phone will restart and you will now be updated to the new 3.0 iPhone software.
What Does The New 3.0 Software Offer For iPhone 3G Owners?
Immediately, you will notice two changes to the icons on the phone.
Where it once said SMS, it now says Messages. The update allows you to send and receive photos, contacts, audio files, and location via MMS (compatible only with iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S and requires support from your wireless provider) and it also allows the ability to forward and delete single or multiple messages.
You will also see the new Voice Memo application. With this app, you can record and save audio through the microphone and share it via email.
Not as noticeable to the eye immediately, is the new Spotlight Search across the iPhone. This is a pretty cool feature that allows you to search for anything on your phone whether its an email, photo, audio file, note and more. To access it, flick your main home screen to the right (it’s will be the left most home screen).
We also now have the ability to Copy and Paste text and photos. Hold your finger down on the screen for just a second and let off to bring up the copy option. Drag the highlight bar to select the text you wish to copy.
Landscape mode is also now available in many places it was not before.
