How to add Multiple Domains to a single GoDaddy Hosting Account

Posted on 17. Feb, 2009 by Shawn Ramsey in Misc

If you were to buy the minimum hosting account for each domain you purchase, it could become quite expensive to host multiple websites. Don’t waste money buying a separate hosting account for each domain. Buy one Deluxe account and host numerous website domains from it while cutting your expenses. After purchasing a new domain, follow the below steps to add it to an existing hosting account. Warning: I would not recommend adding client accounts this way. If they request access to their hosting in the future, then it could mean you giving up your own username and password.

Add Multiple Domains to a single GoDaddy Hosting Account:

1. Login to your account and choose Hosting underneath My Products on the lefthand side of the screen.

2. Choose Manage Account to the right of your primary domain.

3. Choose the FTP client that GoDaddy offers. You may also use your own if you desire.

4. On the Remote System, the first page displayed, create a new directory (or folder) and name it _sites, _websites… or something relevant. This will be the directory that will contain each of your other websites/domains other than your primary domain. * NOTE: The underscore in “_sites” is placed there in order to bring this folder to the top of the list so that it is easier to find.

5. Double click the new folder that you created and create yet another folder and name it something similar to the domain that you want pointed there. Example: mynewwebsite

6. Now we need to point your new domain to this folder. Click Settings at the top of the page. Now click Domain Management in the drop-down menu.

7. On the Domain Management page, click Add Domain.

8. In the menu that opens type the name of your new domain without the “www.” in the appropriate box. Then click browse under Folder: and choose the new folder you created in step five. Alternatively you can type the directory path in the box. Now click OK.

9. You will now see your new domain below your primary domain. Under the title Status it should say Pending Setup. Within about 25 minutes it will say Setup and that will be your cue that your new domain is ready and pointing to the appropriate directory within your Hosting Account.

You have successfully created multiple domains within one GoDaddy hosting account. Just upload the contents of the website into the new folder that you created in step 5 and your website will be viewable within a browser. The address will look normal ex. www.mynewwebsite.com. You wont get any strange directory path in the address bar or appear in anyway that it is not on its own independent hosting account. I hope this helps.
