How To Record Pandora Music
Posted on 31. Mar, 2009 by Shawn in How-To
If you’re like me, you love Pandora. I listen to it at home on the computer and in the car off of my iPhone app all of the time. Well, thanks to Firefox and a little add-on called DownloadHelper you can now copy Pandora music and keep it for yourself (how DownloadHelper still exists, blows me away).
What do I need: Firefox, DownloadHelper add-on and the internet. All of which are free, well except for the internet… unless you’re mooching off Mom and Pops.
Recording The Songs:
1. With DownloadHelper installed in your Firefox browser, navigate your way over to Pandora.
2. Once a song begins to play you will see the DownloadHelper icon spinning away to the left of the address bar.
3. Click on the dropdown arrow to the right of the icon to bring up the option to download.
The download, by default, will be located in the “dwhelper” folder on your computer. Depending on what playback devices you have installed, you may not be able to play the song because of it being in the .FLV format. No Problem!! You can either get VLC Media Player, which plays everything, or change the extension and upload into iTunes (described below).
How To Move These Recorded Pandora Songs Into iTunes:
1. Open the folder where the newly recorded Pandora songs are. You’ll notice that they are in the .FLV format as mentioned above. This means that you can’t directly import them into iTunes without putting them into a format that iTunes recognizes.
Here is what it should look like now:
2. Change the extension by right-clicking on the file and selecting Rename. Name the song whatever you wish, but at the end type .m4a to change the extension. You will notice a change in the icon itself too.
3. Now simply add this file through iTunes, or drag and drop into your iTunes music to add to your library.
I must say that the legality of DownloadHelper is very questionable. In other words use at your own risk. I’m actually not into Piracy and in this tutorial actually just recorded songs that I have already purchased.
