Best Sites For Watching Internet TV On Your Computer

Posted on 31. Mar, 2009 by Shawn in Misc.

Bored with YouTube? Well, thankfully Internet TV is here. Often times, if I sit down to watch some television and can’t seem to find something in the 200+ channels that my satelite provider beams down to me, I’ll just jump on the computer and find what I want there.

While almost all modern computers are now using above par graphic cards, broadband internet and gigantic 20″+ monitors, why wouldnt you want to get a good chunk of your TV experience through your computer? Many sites have began to pop-up offering exactly what we consumers want, quality in-demand Television… and NOW! To help you find some of these sites, I present you with my compilation of The Best Sites For Watching Internet TV On Your Computer.

So where do we go to get this Internet TV?

Movies and Network TV

Hulu is a popular website that offers the option to legally download full episodes and video clips of many of your favorite network shows and major motion films. It has all of the popular content as far as TV goes and carries a vast selection of movies as well. I catch up on my House episodes on Hulu all of the time. As a bonus Hulu has a nice HD selection. The shows on Hulu do contain limited commercials.

Sling is another Internet TV option. It carries a good TV selection, movie selection and also the ability to watch live TV. The quality is very nice, but unlike Hulu, does not currently offer HD. There is the option to embed the shows on your social networking sites or website if you want. The shows on Sling do contain limited commercials.

Popular TV Programs

One big problem with making the switch from your cable or satelite provider to internet TV is that you probably have some channels that you just don’t want to let go of. Luckily there are some solutions to this problem too. Some companies offer thousands of TV channels, from mainstream to some you’ve never heard of. Unfortunately some of these programs come at a cost (comparable to your current cable bill), but on the upside they have plenty of channels to choose from.

iSoftwareTV is a software download that allows you to connect to thousands of worldwide channels in many categories such as movies, news, sports, music, shopping and many more. I haven’t personally tried this software, but have read some decent reviews on it. If you give this a try, please comment below and let others know how it worked out.

Another free service is TidalTV. This site has a TV guide-like format that allows you to see whats coming on each chanel for the next couple of hours. If you don’t feel like waiting, just go ahead and click any program to watch it now. The video and audio quality is great and with DSL you should never experience choppy, buffering, streams.

Another great free site where you can find lots of familiar channels is Inner-Live. Inner-Live has channels such as Discovery, Cartoon Network, ESPN, Nickelodeon, CNN and others. One really cool part of this website is that they integrated a chat room right next to the video screen. The bad thing, no one was chatting when I stopped by. Once more people catch on to this site, and after some visual improvements, I believe it will be very interesting to have the ability to comment on the shows right there in the chat rooms.

News Channels Online

When it comes to getting the news, Livestation delivers. LiveStation offers a some known channels like MTV and Sci Fi, but it’s news selection is quite impressive, including BBC World Service, ITN, Russia Today, France 24, CNN and others. The video carousel that wraps around the current video is very eye-catching and user friendly.

While Internet TV still has a long way to go, the technology and the associated broadband speeds have seemed to advanced far enough at this point so that if anyone is fed up with the overpriced monopoly of cable or satellite TV, switching to the Internet for your video entertainment needs isn’t all that bad of a choice.

Where do you go to get your Internet TV? Comment below and let others know.
