Limewire won’t Connect - Vista and XP Fix
Posted on 16. Feb, 2009 by Shawn Ramsey in Misc
Limewire has been around for sometime now, but it seems that in the past year or so connecting to the network has been a hassle for many users. Most people will tell you that your firewall is blocking the connection, 99% of the time this is not the problem. After hours of looking into this issue, I finally put my finger on what the problem actually was.
Here are the steps that Vista users should follow to get your connection up and running again. XP users follow the same concept.
NOTE: The number one question I receive about this is “Will this delete my songs?” and NO it will not delete any downloads that are previously saved on your computer. Make sure you read the directions closely as to not delete the wrong folder.
How to connect with Limewire:
1. Completely uninstall Limewire. Start>Control Panel>Uninstall a Program (under the Programs heading). Right-click the Limewire program and choose Uninstall.
2. Locate your AppData Folder and open it. There are two ways to complete this step. (Note: You may have to reveal hidden files to see the AppData folder.)
Short Way: Click the Start button and type appdata in the search bar.
Long Way: Click Start>Computer>OS (C:)>>Users>double-click your user name>AppData (should be first folder)
3. Open the Roaming folder within the AppData folder. Make sure to only open the Roaming folder located within AppData. There may be more than one Roaming folder on your computer.
4. In the Roaming folder you will see a Limewire folder. Once located right-click and delete the Limewire folder.
5. Now just reinstall Limewire.
After following the directions, run Limewire and you will have your connection back within seconds. The folder that has to be deleted is a preference folder and is the cause of blocking the network connection. If for some reason this does not work for you, then look into your firewall settings.
