A Showcase Of 20 Celebrity Website Designs
Posted on 15. Dec, 2009 by Shawn Ramsey in Design
It may seem that celebrities have it all - fancy cars, fame and an immeasurable amount of wealth. Yet there is one thing that most of them don’t have, and that’s a well-built website. You would think that with the endless amount of resources available that online presence would be one facet of their lives that they wouldn’t skimp out on.
When I went into this post, I thought “this should be easy enough, there are probably a hundred amazing official celebrity websites scattered throughout the web”, I was wrong. It took me some time just to come up with 20 that I could say were ‘decent’.
To be honest, there are actually a couple of great designs mixed into this list. A few that definitely took the hands of a professional designer to create and some that are just better than average compared to other celebrity sites. As you would guess, there is heavy use of flash scattered throughout almost the entire collection.
01. Jim Carrey
To put it simply, Jim Carrey’s website is out there. It’s filled with some wonderful animations that tempt you to click all over the screen. A little cluttered in my opinion. While you’re there, check out his twitter bird.
02. Bob Dylan
Another celebrity site that doesn’t hold back. The layout was done extremely well with easy navigation and a great overall user experience.
03. Tom Cruise
I was surprised at Tom Cruise’s site. If you can tune out the horrible background music, it’s really pretty well put together.
04. Emma Watson
Emma’s site contains colorful animated vectors, fast loading and just an overall professional design.
05. Mathew McConaughey
It’s exactly what you expect it to be. A colorful intro, stoner background music and just an interesting ride throughout the entire site.
06. Jennifer Lopez
Overall a well put together site, but the advertisements leave you wondering… why? I guess Sony is concentrating on their bottom line.
07. Los Lonely Boys
You may not even know these guys, I barely do. I must give them credit for the creativity of their site though. It’s not top-notch but probably better than 80% of the other poorly put together band sites that scatter the web.
08. Jeff Dunham
He’s that puppet guy from Comedy Central. An interesting website with lots of clickable objects. It loads fast, it’s kind of funny and it may be the better of the comedian sites out there.
09. Johnny Cash
Okay, I admit it, I’m a Johnny Cash fan. Parts of his site scream early 2000 web development, while other elements are quite creative and catchy. I couldn’t leave the site due to the playlist of songs that kept me singing in my head. I actually think it’s still open in a tab somewhere.
10. Will Smith
Don’t call me out on this one, Will Smith’s site does appear to be ‘incomplete’. There are really only two things to do on it, Facebook him or sign up for a newsletter. I still love the simplicity of it and hope that the site builders keep with that theme throughout the new additions.
11. Jeff Bridges
Full of hand drawn imagery and a ton of vertical scrolling, Jeff Bridges’ website is definitely different.
12. Marilyn Manson
Love him or hate him, the heavy use of flash in his site was well executed. Don’t just skim by this one, there was a lot of creativity put into it.
13. Paul McCartney
It starts out with a catchy intro featuring some old footage of the Beatles. The rest of the his site is well ‘mediocre’ considering most of the band sites I checked out were designed in 1996.
14. John Travolta
Easy to navigate and feeds you with just enough Travolta to make you happy. It could definitely use a face-lift.
15. Alessandra Ambrosio
If you can’t already tell from the “Happy 2007!!!” plastered across the front of her homepage, Alessandra’s website hasn’t been touched in some time. That being said she still gets a “C” for creativity. It’s just not exactly what you would expect form a super-models website.
16. Kanye West
Another site full of clickable’s. It’s not easy getting around, but it’s definately a ride.
17. Howie Mandel
It’s kind of plain-jane, but I guess it get’s the job done. Howie’s site could definitely use a makeover.
18. The Killers
The Killers’ website is still sporting the 2008 copyright in the footer. They need a new homepage worst then a new copyright, but most of the content is delivered in an interesting fashion.
19. Linkin Park
If you’re a fan, you should enjoy the site. It loads rather quickly and is full of content. I love that they don’t slam you with music on the way in.
20. Courtney Love
Sorry, but I had to put this one on the list. I feel like it could of been a great site had it not been left alone for going on 3 years now. I guess it kind of reflects her career though. Check it out to see what I mean.
Your Turn
This is the part where you point out the dozen or so sites that I missed. Feel free to complete the list by adding your favorites in the comment section.
